Ornaments and figurines represent two related but distinct branches of Erzgebirge craftsmanship. Figurines are freestanding decorative pieces — hand-carved and hand-painted characters meant to be arranged and displayed on a shelf or tabletop. Ornaments are their tree-ready counterparts: smaller, lighter pieces finished with a hanging loop, built to the same standard of hand-painted detail but sized for the branch rather than the shelf. Both draw on the same regional traditions, spanning angels, nativity scenes, forest animals, and traditional shapes like stars and bells.
