Description

German Wooden Nutcracker Forester circa 1870. In an era where a foresters job was to protect the forest from poachers for the Emperor this uniform would blend right into the lush greens that surround him in his work and walk. German Wooden Nutcracker Forester from 1870 stands about 37.5 cm tall (almost 15 inches) and was made in the Erzgebirge region of Germany in the village of Seiffen where the wooden nutcracker was first created. This Nutcracker was made by the Fuchtner family and it was Wilhelm Friedrich Fuchtner that is credited with first creating the wooden nutcracker back in 1870. As far back as 1786 Gotthelf Friedrich Fuchtner was selling wooden figurines at the Dresdener Striezel Market to supplement his family’s carpenter business. German Wooden Nutcracker Forester from 1870 is signed by Volker Fuchtner the head of the family Nutcracker business (and Volker Fuchtner is the 6th generation of Fuchtner’s running this Nutcracker family business). A true collectible that has a history and a beauty that will last for generations to come.
