Chip trees - an art form from Saxony. This traditional handicraft technique of pricking chips from a lime wood blank is one of the most impressive handicraft techniques in the world. The chip tree gets its typical shape through pushing and aligning the chips. Cutting wood chips requires lots of skill, perseverance and lots of practice. The chip trees by Erzgebirge Wooden Toy Makers Schüttruck celebrate more than 100 years of wooden toy making with their unmistakable shapes.

When cutting smaller chip trees, I use wood chisels to press around the lime wood blank, making increasingly larger chips. The chip tree gets its shape through the subsequent alignments of these chips. In order to create this fantastic product, you need good skills and lots of practice.
